In the early 90s virtually all the states with Great Lakes coastlines defunded life guard programs at state beaches. Many municipalities followed suite. Today The Great Lakes Shark Patrol is the last organization remaining that is equipped to stay vigilant and watch the waves for signs of Great Lakes Shark activity.
